Creating PICU-ups.
PICU-ups are fun packages of toys and gifts for children in the PICU ranging from babies up to teens. One PICU-ups package should have at least 3 gifts contained in a basket and decorated appropriately. Themed baskets are great and the more fun you can pack into one, the better! Here are some example PICU-ups. The PICU-ups logo is then printed out and tied onto the basket with a little quote or note of encouragement.
Delivering PICU-ups.
This is the best part. Delivering the PICU-ups to the hospital and providing these packages to "pick them up" is what this project is all about. Most time, we can not deliver the packages directly to the children due to the condition that they are in and the possible germs we can bring up to the PICU floor. Regaurdless, children in need will recieve these PICU-ups and be a little happier and maybe a little more encouraged from it.
Shopping for PICU-ups.
We have had some great shoppers help to pick out great toys, games, and gifts to fill PICU-ups packages.
Our shoppers follow these guide lines when shopping for PICU-ups. We want to provide toys that these kids can enjoy right now! So avoid “outside” toys. Avoid toys that have potentially been exposed to germs and lean more towards toys that are wrapped, packaged (untouched), or easily washed/sanitized. Try to keep them small gifts that can fit in a basket with a couple others. This isn’t a toy donation; these are more like care packages.
